The impact of corporate, consumer, and institutional behavior on society and the environment has become increasingly top of mind for the public in the past decade. This change can be seen in the changing landscape of impact reporting required by various regulating bodies around the world, including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive of the European Union, the Securities and Exchange Commission in the United States, and best practices established in the context of the UN SDGs. However, there is a shortage of skilled professionals trained for the impact accounting required for effective social and environmental impact reporting.
This course serves as an introductory class to pique the interest of industry professionals, including sustainability consultants, accountants, lawyers, environmental engineers, entrepreneurs, and others, as well as equip them with a general assessment of the impact accounting ecosystem, best practices, and resources to take the next step towards further training. It serves as the precursor to a more in-depth course that students may elect to take in the future.
The goal of this course is to introduce a variety of industry professionals interested in social and environmental impact to the landscape of impact accounting, offer best practices in the field through case studies, and equip them with the resources to take their sustainability career forward.
